Adam Sterling - Heroic Academy Profile

 Update:  I added the names of his sweetheart, friends, and his new hero name.
     

Here is my application for one of my OCs to this wonderful group about a school for heroes and villains. 

Name: Adam Andrew Sterling AKA "Ocean Blue" (which was a nickname from Princess-Icicles OC Blake Midnight that he eventually got used to and adopted as his hero name)

Age: 35

Hero or Villain: Hero Teacher

Appearance: You can obviously tell his appearance from the picture, so I'll just describe what the outfits mean. His first outfit is his regular non-school outfit. Adam is very casual and laid back.  He loves gaudy Hawaiian shirts for some reason.  His second outfit is what he wears when he teaches.  He doesn’t think Miss Collins would like him to come to class in a Hawaiian shirt and khakis.  The third outfit is his formal wear.  He looks rather shy and uncomfortable and is blushing slightly because he’s not used to formal events.  He’s not used to dressing up.  He’s not used to dancing.  It all just seems awkward to him.  One thing that you can’t see is a rather ugly shark bite scar on his right upper arm.

Powers/Abilities: Adam is a water elemental.  He can manipulate water, swim like a fish (in fact he is able to hold his breath almost indefinitely), and he can speak telepathically to sea creatures.  Technically he can do it with land animals too but water creatures are his specialty.

Personality: Adam is very adventurous and daring person.  He loves his homeland and her animals more than almost anything in the world.  He loves catching and examining all sorts of creatures but he never harms them.  He always frees them and moves onto something else that he finds fun. He is all about conservation and educating others about the beautiful creatures he’s in love with.  He’s a bit naïve at times. One of his bad habits is that he carries a flask in his pocket and turns to its contents when things get too rough for him. He has an enormous heart and is passionate about everything he does.  He doesn’t do things half way.  Adam also has fascination with extreme or at least somewhat dangerous sports.  Adam lives on adrenaline and passion!  The best description I can give of him is this strange mix of Steve Irwin “The Crocodile Hunter” and Crocodile Dundee but even more naive and confused about fancy academies and the formal atmosphere than either of them would have been.

Dislikes: Sitting still for any length of time, hunting, poaching, over-fishing, bullies, liars, seeing anyone/anything suffer, fancy clothes, people who look down at him because he is rather naive at times

Best Friend(s): Headmistress Amberley Collins is the only teacher he is getting to know well so far.  He has gotten close with a couple of the students though such as...  Aria Tyler AKA "Titan", Michael Flynn AKA "Specter", Rael Kess AKA "Ace", and he's trying really hard to get through to the little villain Jamie Lee Lewis AKA "The Seer".

Significant Other: The Deputy Head of Villain Academy, the twin school of Heroic Academy, Blake Midnight AKA "Shade".

Backstory: Adam was born in Australia, the oldest son of Bruce and Emily Anne Sterling, followed just a year later by his brother Everett.  His family lived in what was basically a trailer house way out in the outback.  He was an outgoing, cheerful child with an insatiable curiosity about the world around him.  He spent much of his time outside exploring.  He loved his desert home and the many creatures that lived there.  He was always bringing home some little animal, much to the dismay of his family.  What was more distressing however was the fact that many of the creatures young Adam handled with so little concern were dangerous or even poisonous!  No one could understand how the child never sustained any injuries!  What they didn’t know and Adam didn’t realize until years later was that he was speaking telepathically to the creatures of the Australian outback!
    Every year the family spent summer vacation at the seashore.  They all loved swimming and soaking up the sun together.  Adam loved it most of all!  The care-free boy who took so easily to the desert surrounding his home was equally at home in the warm oceans surrounding his beloved homeland.  He was like a little fish!  It was a family joke that if you cut him Adam would bleed salt water!
    The summer he turned ten was different however.  He was just learning to surf back then.  One day he was yanked off his board and into the sea.  As his vision adjusted to being under water Adam saw a huge great white shark with his arm in its mouth!  The terrified boy struggled as he was dragged deeper and the creature’s knife-like teeth sank deeper into his flesh, but to no avail. (I know this isn’t 100% accurate as to how a white shark would normally attack but I needn’t to do it this way for the plot device to work.  Sorry to any fellow shark fanatics!) He’d never felt so helpless!  He knew he was going to die but still his brain futilely begged, “Please let go!  Please let go!  Oh please let me go!”
    Just then the shark released his arm and spun around so that they were nose to nose.  It had a rather bewildered look on its face.  Then Adam heard a gruff deep voice echoing around in his head.  “Did you say that?” it asked.
    “Y-you heard me?”
    “Yeah… weird!” the shark’s voice in his head said.  “I was trying to catch a seal.  I’m starved!”
    “But I don’t look anything like a seal,” the boy protested in his mind.
    “Well not face to face like this.  From down below, in murky water, and poor lighting as the sun’s going down you start to.  Don’t smell like one though.  Truth was I didn’t know what you were but I’m so hungry that it was worth a test bite.  Then you started struggling and bleeding and I guess I just got carried away by my predator instincts.  Er… sorry, kid.”  The beast then turned tail and vanished into the gloom.
    “Wait!” Adam called out mentally but this time there was no response.  Just as the boy was about to pass out from blood and oxygen loss he felt something strange happening around him.  The water was beginning to swirl rapidly.  Was he caught in a whirlpool?  Before he even had time to think about it the swirling force tossed him up onto the shore where he fainted.
    When Adam awoke he was staring up into the face of tanned and bearded old man with a concerned look on his face.

(Sorry guys.  I’m going to get lazy here.  No more dialogue or long drawn out explanations of stuff.  This profile has taken way too long to post and I just want to get on with it.  If I feel like elaborating on what’s coming up I’ll do so sometime later and alert you guys in the comments of the group’s home page that I’ve done so.  Once again sorry!)   

Fun Facts: When I originally created Adam many years ago he was supposed to be an army sergeant.  How far he’s come!  Now he’s a conservationist and pacifist.  He’s also much more naive and cuddly than he used to be.
